FREEDcan Partners

FREEDcan collaborates with provincial and national organizations for development and service delivery. These partners provide and deliver training, resources, and services to health care professionals as well as to youth and families/caregivers accessing FREEDcan services.

The National Eating Disorder Information Centre (NEDIC) is a supportive connection to eating disorder resources and healthcare pathway navigation within Canada. NEDIC offers confidential helpline services to anyone affected by an eating disorder through live chat, telephone, and email. Additionally, NEDIC supports the development of psychoeducation resources for FREEDcan and the creation and delivery of trainings to increase eating disorder competency amongst health care professionals working to implement FREEDcan services in the community.

Body Brave is an organization dedicated to promoting recovery from eating disorders for every body. Body Brave offers support services and treatment programs including a virtual recovery support program. Body Brave is co-developing the FREEDcan virtual recovery support program which will provide tailored, low-barrier resources for any young person, caregiver or family member accessing FREEDcan services. Additionally, Body Brave continues to advise on the development of the FREEDcan service model and implementation science research.

Body Peace is a free online program for anyone in Canada 14+ powered by Eating Disorders Nova Scotia. They offer peer support led by trained mentors and other resources including videos, worksheets, and workshops. Body Peace continues to participate and collaborate in discussions relating to the scale up and national implementation of FREEDcan.

FREEDcan Contributors

Eating Disorders Ontario (EDO) is a provincially-funded organization that has contributed to the development of a specialized training program for Ontario that aims to improve and maintain high-quality service delivery through increased practitioner competence to treat and support those with eating disorders. EDO supported the development of the training curriculum for the FREEDcan initiative, and will support implementation of the curriculum in Ontario.

THINC Partners

FREEDcan is funded in part by a 5-year Transforming Health with Integrated Care (THINC) grant, through the Canadian Institute of Health Research (CIHR).

The THINC grant funds FREEDcan’s implementation science activities.

The objectives of the THINC grant are to:

  • Continue establishing Canadian evidence for the FREEDcan model
  • Build capacity for spread and scale
  • Mobilize knowledge locally, provincially, and nationally

FREEDcan's THINC grant activities are generously supported by the following partners:

  • CHEO Research Institute
  • Ministry of Health
  • The Knowledge Institute
    • The Knowledge Institute on Child and Youth Mental Health and Additions works with Ontario's child and youth mental health sector to share knowledge, build capacity and create the connections needed to improve mental health and addictions services for children, young people and families across the province.

The Knowledge Institute is pleased to collaborate with the FREEDcan team to offer our support in implementation and evaluation. Our team provides coaching and consultations, and we strive to share practical tools, templates, and advice designed to help effectively spread and scale initiatives throughout the province.
